My First Project Ideas: In Retrospect

“If your pictures aren’t good enough, you’re not close enough,” says Robert Capa. The point of this project was to learn how to take the focal point of our images to the edge of the frame and to use up the space available in the frame.

For this first project, I did not feel limited to take photos of any one thing. Going into this first project, I had the idea to take up-close photos, so up-close that the viewer may not be able to recognize the focal object. I was planning to take pictures of objects that one encounters in a normal day. For example, objects sitting on a desk or objects that one could find on the way to class.

A lot of times, I think that art created from the ordinary is the most extraordinary. I know that I began shooting for this project with that on my mind. But because I am new at this form of art, I feel that I am progressing through an exploratory stage. I consider this stage to be the time that I begin to learn about the things that I am passionate about shooting. I am still in the midst of exploring and learning, so for my first project, I planned to take photos of as many different subjects as possible.
